“Spyrou Hotels” Participates in “Let’s do it Greece” Cleanup Initiative in Skopelos, Greece

As part of the company’s Corporate Responsibility, “Spyrou Hotels”, members of “Spyrou Philoxenia”, participated with lots of joy in “Let’s do it Greece” voluntary cleanup efforts on the island of Skopelos April 2, 2017

A special task force of volunteers from “Spyrou Hotels” worked on cleaning up the area of Panagitsa Tou Pirgou in Skopelos Town which has been honored as a Traditional Settlement of Outstanding Beauty.

“Let’s do it! World” is a civic-led mass movement that began in Estonia in 2008 when 50,000 people united together to clean up the entire country in just five hours. Since then, Let’s Do It! has spread this model—one country in one day—around the world. In 2011, volunteers from the Environmental Organization of Attica, “Ora gia Drasi” and the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association came into contact with the group in Estonia and discussed how they can do a similar activity in Greece. This is how “Let’s do it Greece” was formed. To date, 113 countries and over 16 million people have joined us to clean up illegal waste.

“Spyrou Hotels” has enacted various initiatives to promote a higher level of awareness regarding environmental sensitivity in addition to taking direct actions to actively protect the environment. A recent initiative was the cooperation with AFIS for the recycling of batteries, placing battery recycling bins on its properties throughout Skopelos.

“Nature is our legacy and is what we will leave behind for our children and their children”, stated Mr. George Michalis, General Director of Spyrou Hotels and Spyrou Philoxenia. “It is our responsibility to make sure we protect the environment to the best of our individual and collective abilities”, he added. “As the largest company on Skopelos, our Corporate Responsibility is greatly focused in this direction and on doing our share to help protect the environment” he ended.

Currently operating 5 properties on the island of Skopelos in addition to managing reservations and sales for additional properties there, the company is expanding its roster with new partnerships being announced throughout Greece. Current Spyrou Philoxenia Affiliate Member hotels include Kaimak Inn in Kaimaktsalan, Central Macedonia – Greece, Chania Hotel, Chania Palace, Aglaida Hotel & Apartments, and Iris Guesthouse in Pelion, Archontiko Kaltezioti and Nymfasia Arcadia Resort in Arcadia, Peloponnese, and Hotel Agnanti in Alonnisos.

Region of Pelion goes Viral from “Travel Bloggers Greece” Press Trip arranged by Hotel Management Company, “Spyrou Philoxenia”

The region of Pelion received “Viral” exposure from “Travel Bloggers Greece” following their Press Trip Jan. 27 – 29, 2017, arranged by Hotel Management Company “Spyrou Philoxenia.”

The trip’s mission was to showcase Pelion’s richness in natural beauty, cultural heritage, local traditions, outdoor activities, cuisine, and warm hospitality and reveal why it is Greece’s “hidden gem”. Spyrou Philoxenia created the hashtag #DestinationPelion where viewers can follow the journey on social media networks including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

“Spyrou Philoxenia is keen on working with travel bloggers as we understand their impact on travelers’ holiday decision making” stated John Grigoras, Deputy Manager, Sales & Marketing, Spyrou Philoxenia. “Our company’s goal is to create life-long memories for our guests through authentic experiences coupled with professional services and select accommodations at our Affiliate Member hotels. After meeting the founders of Travel Bloggers Greece at the World Travel Market in London and learning about their upcoming Anniversary, I suggested Pelion without hesitation as the ideal destination. We were able to arrange a wonderful collaboration between private business such as Trekking Hellas and Les Hirondelles, institutions such as the Hotel Owners Association of Magnesia, and the public sector in the form of the Prefectural Units of Magnesia and Sporades Islands, in what resulted to be a very memorable experience. Travel Bloggers Greece is made of very professional bloggers and interest in Pelion has already started showing from the trip on social media”, he ended.

"As travel bloggers we love promoting amazing destinations, like Pelion, with authenticity and local insight. Working with Spyrou Philoxenia made that possible," said Elena Sergeeva, co-founder of TBG. “Our members look forward to blogging about their first hand experiences exploring this special region of Greece. “Traveling to Pelion as part of our two-year anniversary was a special experience,” said Marissa Tejada, co-founder of TBG. "By working closely with experienced hotel management company Spyrou Philoxenia, we have a wonderful opportunity to share the unique beauty, hospitality and gastronomy of Pelion through quality digital content and social media channels.”

As this winter brought a good amount of snow fall, the bloggers were able to experience what the region has to offer visitors all throughout the year. Hosted at Aglaida Hotel & Apartments in Tsagarada during their stay in Pelion, the first day began with an unforgettable hike to the beach in the village of Damouchari by representatives from Trekking Hellas. The bloggers were then taken by bus through the village of Agios Ioannis to the historic village of Zagora where they had the opportunity to photograph the picturesque square and enjoy mouth-watering local delicacies at a traditional local restaurant. The trip continued to the ski resort in the village of Chania which produced photos of the snow-covered mountain overlooking the Aegean Sea. The group then headed to Manthos Hotel Resort & Spa to warm up with a coffee break and an opportunity for the traditional cutting of their Vasilopita (Saint Basil's Cake).

The second day focused on the south side of Pelion starting off with a visit to the village of Vizitsa where the bloggers enjoyed traditional hand-made spoon sweets at the Women's Cooperative followed by a stop at the historic and unique Church of Archangels in Milies. En-route to Volos, the trip passed through the seaside villages of Kala Nera and Afisso including a stop at the Ano Lechonia train station for pictures with the famous “Moutzouris” train of Pelion. After enjoying Tsipouro and mezedes in Volos, the trip continued to the village of Makrinitsa and ended with dinner at Kritsa in the village of Portaria.

Additional photos and videos from the trip can be found on Spyrou Philoxenia’s Facebook and Instagram page, Travel Bloggers Greece’s Facebook page and on the bloggers’ individual blogs.

Spyrou Philoxenia’s presence in Pelion currently includes 4 hotels with more being announced shortly. Currently operating 7 properties on the island of Skopelos in addition to managing reservations and sales for additional properties there, the company is expanding its roster with new partnerships being announced throughout Greece. Affiliate Member hotels include Kaimak Inn, Chania Hotel, Chania Palace, Aglaida Hotel and Apartments, Iris Traditional Guesthouse and Suites, Archontiko Kaltezioti, and Nymfasia Arcadia Resort.
